No limit · dogs permitted
Wild hog
Run as a control season rather than a sport season: no limit, dogs allowed, and any weapon legal for deer, bear or elk.
Control, not sport
Hogs are destructive and non-native, so TWRA manages them as a control problem. The December hunts carry no bag limit, permit the use of dogs, and allow any weapon legal for deer, bear or elk.
Orange is required
Blaze orange is required during the hog control hunts. Dogs are working and other hunters are moving through cover — this is not a season to blend in.
Hogs must arrive whole
You may not field dress a hog and bring in parts. Hogs must be presented whole at the check station, which is how TWRA tracks the population and monitors disease.
What else closes
Trapping and small game hunting close during the hog control season.
Dates change every year. The season calendar has the current listing, and planning a hunt covers permits, camping and check-in.
