Raccoon, opossum, squirrel, bullfrog and trapping — plus the odd set of rules that govern coyote, fox and bobcat during big game seasons.
Raccoon and opossum
The season runs November 1 through December 31, ending at sunrise. It closes during big game hunts, which take out a substantial part of that window — check the deer dates before planning a night.
February walk-in
Catoosa closes to all users on February 1, but walk-in hunters and trappers are permitted through the last day of February. Walk-in means walk in: OHVs, bikes and horses are not part of that exception, and the closure runs on through the last Friday in March.
Squirrel, bullfrog and trapping
Spring squirrel is one of two seasons open during the March-to-August hunting closure. Dogs are not permitted during spring squirrel season. Bullfrog runs April 1 to September 1, excluding turkey hunts. Trapping runs mid-December through the end of February.
Coyote, fox and bobcat
During big game seasons, rifles and center-fire handguns are legal for beaver, bobcat, fox, coyote, groundhog and crow. Coyotes may be taken with any weapon legal for the hunt in progress. Chasing fox, coyote or bobcat with dogs is not allowed on this area.
Not permitted
There is no quail hunting and no dog training at Catoosa.
