Spring only · one male per day

Eastern wild turkey

One of only two things open on the area through the spring closure, which makes the plateau a lot quieter than it is in November.

A spring exception

Catoosa closes to all hunting from March 1 through the fourth Friday in August, with turkey and spring squirrel as the stated exceptions. Turkey season is therefore one of very few reasons to be on the area with a weapon in spring.

Season and limit

The spring season runs roughly a month from mid-April, with a young sportsman hunt on a separate weekend ahead of it. The limit is one male per day during the general season, and one male on the young sportsman hunt.

What else is closed around you

The ranges close during turkey hunts — both the Genesis Checking Station range and the Peavine Campground range. Bullfrog season is open from April 1 but not during turkey hunts.

Dates change every year. The season calendar has the current listing, and planning a hunt covers permits, camping and check-in.
